A New Favorite Story

A romance to melt your heart. If you love Irish guys, underdogs, Nancy Meyers movies, forced proximity, nice guys, and similar authors like Emily Henry, Cecelia Ahern, and Jane Greene’s (early works), you’ll love this contemporary romance. There’s a bit of sizzling spiciness towards the end, but it’s not a “bodice-ripper”.

Pretty great

I seriously don't think Christina Lauren can write a bad book. This book is so simple and complex all at once. There's the immigration issue but of course there's also love which, when it works, is pretty simple. You'll definitely find yourself agreeing with the different points of view of our main characters, Calvin and Holland and you'll wonder about the friendship with Lulu. The little secrets and backstory really help this book to feel "real" with the "I see how that could happen" factor. It really makes you invested in trying to help the characters to work everything out to your liking. But, if you're a Christina Lauren fan, then you know you have no worries. They'll take care of it for you!

A fun, emotional roller coaster

Talk about an emotional rollercoaster... I'm not sure that I have ever felt so many different emotions while reading a romance novel. One second you're scared, then it's happy. Next thing you know you're either angry for the character, confused as heck because you can't understand what made them get to that conclusion. Holland and Calvin as a couple absolutely kill me. I can't truly describe the emotions that I feel while reading about them. Nothing I write could possibly be good enough. This is one of those book couples where I pray that I can read more. One book will never be enough to satisfy any reader.

Girl Meets Boy and So Much More

Thank you to Bookish First, Gallery Books, and the authors for an advanced copy of Roomies. Roomies seems like a typical Girl Meets Boy story. There's a girl, she falls in love, and then her life is better. And it is that. But yet it is much more. Holland Bakker has a crush-- a hard crush on "Jack", a subway guitarist. After her uncle's head musician quits his orchestra, Holland takes her uncle to see Calvin ("Jack") play. Sadly, Calvin is here illegally from Ireland. To be able to help her uncle-- who has done so much for her-- and out of the appreciation of Calvin's musical ability, Holland marries Calvin. From there, their relationship plot points are predictable. However, in this time, we watch Holland's character develop. From figuring out what and who she wants in her life, Holland learns to believe and trust in herself. I enjoyed this book due to the fact that the characters are likable. Stories, that have some predictable plot points, don't work when the characters are not well written. Holland would be someone you'd have coffee with and I want her uncles to be part of my family! Highly recommend for someone who wants fun women's literature book to read!
