Read All About It!

From Hideyuki Kurata, creator of the original "Read or Die" manga, comes the wacky spin-off "Read or Dream," illustrated by Ran Ayanaga. This series stars the Paper Sisters--perky Michelle, tomboyish Maggie and spunky Anita--three bibliophiles who are also detectives that take on any case involving books. Not only that, but the trio shares Yumiko Readman's ("Read or Die") power to manipulate paper in any form (e.g.: bow and arrow). In the first volume, the hilarious adventures of the Paper Sisters range from recommending books to an alien judging humanity to the girls organizing their massive book collection to Maggie being the protagonist of a bizarre yet heartwarming love story. When it comes down to it, this is about as fun as the "R.O.D." movie, though not as action-packed. This volume includes an alcohol-fueled interview with Kurata, Ayanaga and fellow artist Shutaro Yamada, as well as the first chapter of a written fairy tale. This comic is rated T+ for Older Teen: Mild Violence, Adult Situations.

Slightly misleading description, but still good

This is a very cute and funny manga. The three sisters only solve two crimes right at the beginning of the book (one is really a "mystery" more than a crime) and it's only during those 2 chapters that they control the paper. The rest of the book is a 'slice of life' type of thing about the three girls, a blind girl that Maggie befriends, and the sisters' efforts to keep their bookstore orderly. I like it but will probably get the rest from the library instead of buying them.

You'll Never Look At Another Book The Same Way Again!

I have seen the Read or Die Movie and parts of the anime series on TV. But Read or Dream is probably one of the best manga series from Hideyuki Kurata (he also created the Read or Die series as well as Parade Parade series.) The Paper Sisters, as they are called, have a unique style of work. Michelle is the dumb, but funny, blonde who will collect anything written on paper (yes, even instruction manuals). Maggie is the look-like-a-boy, quiet middle sister who you can not pull away from a book. And then there is Anita, the small little tomboy who thinks that books are a waste of time. These three young sisters own a detective agency, dedicated to the finding of animals and...lost books? Full of slapstick comedy, drama and romance this book is a very good book for any reader. If you are a fan of the Read or Die series I suggest that you read it. The story line is a tad different, but it is still good! Overall, this book series (which is only 4 books long) is a must read if you are into the comedy type of books. R.O.D. (Read or Dream) Vol. 1 gets 5 stars out of 5. My name is Amone! Adios!

Good, but random.

I haven't finished it yet, but Read or Dream is really different from Read or Die, or even the anime series. It is set before Read or Die: The TV, and details what happened to The Paper Sisters before that series. Yomiko Readman is NOT in this book. The chapters are really random, but I guess that would be normal for a book that deals with a Detective Agency, and each chapter is a bit like a single case. If you're a bibliophile like me, you'll love this. If you like this series, you'll love this. However, if you don't like books, or this series, then don't get it.
