Rivers' Edge: The Weezer Story

Infighting, power struggles, membership firings and resignations, lawsuits, settlements, non-disclosure agreements, oddball behavior, and, most importantly, fabulous rock music. Welcome to Weezer's weird world, steered by brainchild Rivers Cuomo -- perhaps the world's most unlikely rock star. Exhaustively researched, Rivers''Edge documents the rise of the band from Cuomo's beginnings as a failure on Hollywood's hair metal scene to his reinvention...

"John D. Luerssen has produced a well-written work in Rivers' Edge . . . he has gone to great lengths in this book to impress upon the reader the extreme talent it takes to be such a prolific songwriter and excellent musician." - Sarah Jennings, Wonka Vision, February 2005 Thanks for your informative and well-written volume...Thanks very much for writing it even if Rivers himself didn't quite authorize it (that doesn't surprise me in the least). -- Tom Bell, father of Weezer guitarist Brian Bell, Email to the author, February 2005 "Obsessive, fascinating account of the prototypical emo band and the troubled genius behind it." -- Blender Magazine's November '04 issue (pg 176); "Blender Approved: The Best Books Of The Past Three Months" While it may seem dorky to sit down and actually read an entire book about Weezer (which I actually did), there's a certain car-crash quality to it that won't let you put the damn thing down. Stories of Cuomo's insane tendencies - not limited to his obsession with half-Japanese girls and his maniacal control issues - will have you watching him unravel, but rendered unable to walk away." - Ryan Allen, Real Detroit Weekly, October 5, 2004 "I think you did a great job with the book" - former Weezer bassist Mikey Welsh, Email to the author, August 2004 During the late 90's, most figured that Rivers Cuomo had became a 'Brian Wilson' character - a recluse, penning masterworks that would never be heard. Cuomo eventually did reappear, of course - and this unauthorized book does an excellent job of retracing his steps, with fascinating insights into his hippie upbringing and heavy metal past (complete with hilarious pics). Those who have Cuomo pegged as a Cobain-like saint may be disappointed (turns out he has a groupie weakness) but thanks to Mr Luerssen, we now have insight as to what goes on behind the horn-rimmed glasses. -- KKKK {four stars}, Kerrang!, September 2004 "Luerssen, though clearly a fan, does not kowtow or hero-worship here... Rivers' Edge documents one of rock's most charismatic, cute and clever characters. And because it's unauthorized, the subject retains his iconic mystery." - Linda Laban, Boston Herald, September 23, 2004 "This mysterious, much loved, yet often misunderstood band is peeled apart in this unauthorized biography uncovering shy frontman Rivers Cuomo. Read about this musical genius and his weird, domineering and egomaniacal characteristics. Gotta love him!" - Mari Fong, "Music Gift Guide 2004", CampusCircle.net, December 2004 "Any fan of Weezer (or of Cuomo himself) needs to read this book. It sheds light on the awkwardly brilliant ruler, as well as the band's post-Pinkerton hiatus and subsequent reemergence, a highly improbable success story. Luerrsen did heavy research and devoted much time to the creation of this unique look into the wonderful world of Weezer." - Crystal Taylor, Serrano Rattler, December 2004 Weezer: Out of the Garage (originally posted 12/13/

I couldn't put down this book. Great sources.

I had done many research projects on Rivers Cuomo, Matt Sharp, and Weezer. This book had many answers to questions I had been trying to answer. What happened to Mikey? Are Matt Sharp and Rivers on good or bad terms now? Was Jason Cropper the original guitarist of Weezer? Was Maya Rudolph really in The Rentals? Etc, etc. I give it five stars just for that. I was very amazed with how many legitimate sources Luerssen was able to aquire. A great book for true Weezer fans.
