Frighteningly realistic

I read this book when it was first published. I keep going back to it as the finest example of a serial killer novel I have come across (and I have read them all). The characterizations are so vivid it is hard to believe this is fiction. And the shocking ending! Great stuff!

TAUT THRILLER

THIS IS A FICTIOUS, BUT REALISTIC VIEW OF THE GREEN RIVER KILLING THAT TOOK PLACE IN THE 1980'S. THE BOOK SHOWS BOTH THE SERIAL KILLER AND THE MAN WHO IS TRING TO STOP HIM. THE SCENES THAT INVOLVE THE KILLER MAY BE SOME OF THE MOST DISTUBING I HAVE EVER READ. THORP DIVES INTO THE MIND OF A SEIAL KILLER AND SHOWS HOW THE KILLER THINKS AND ACTS. THE BOOK ALSO ENDS WITH A SUPRISE ENDING TO BOOT! I RECOMEND THIS BOOK TO ANYONY WHO LIKES TO STAY UP LATE AND GET SCARED TO DEATH!

Couldn't wait to turn the next page.

This is a fictionalized account of the Green River killings which took place in the Pacific Northwest in the 1980's. The protaganist is a Seattle police detective who early-on senses who the real killer is but has trouble convincing the task force searching for the killer of his true identity. We get a good peek inside the killer's mind, as his identity is never kept a secret from the reader. From the detective's earliest suspicions up to his final moments with the killer, the pace never slackens. Readers who can't handle sadistic killers should avoid this book

Compelling and terrifying, puts you in the killer's mind

"River" is Rod Thorp's best work yet. Based on the true story of the Green River Killer in Washington State, the novel takes you into the demented mind of a serial killer. Thorp (The Detective, Die Hard) researched his novel by going to the same places, driving the same roads, and possibly meeting the same people as the killer. His insight into what makes the killer act as he does makes me wonder if I would ever like to meet the author in person. This book is a "must read" for any fan of a mystery or a psychological thriller - you won't be able to put it down!
