Ride the Red Sun Down: 6

I've never read Thom Nicholson before, but I'm definitely going to get his other books. I wish I had read them in sequence from the beginning. This is a good book just to relax with. I'm not a real avid "cowboy" and western reader, but enjoyed this book very much. The story was simple to follow and good enough to want to finish it in just a reading or two.

This is an almost wholly satisfactory ending to the story of Marty Keller,reluctant bounty hunter,as begun in the previous book "Man Killer". It is seven years later, and Keller is still on the hunt for those who murdered his wife and son. When he runs out of money, he turns to bounty hunting to fund himself. He has become a legend, but one that that he doesn't like, as the inherently warm and friendly Keller is scorned by "decent people" because of his profession. Wounded after a shootout, he is taken in by a widow whose sheriff husband has been backshot and his murderer uncaught; soon, Keller recovers and is motivated by gratitude to go after the sheriff's killer, only to find a link to his own quest as a result. The disconcerting weakness to this otherwise well-written book is bad proofing. A six thousand dollar money order is made out; when it is received, it is sixteen thousand. Keller looks for a blonde man; in the next town, he continues to seek, but the man is now dark. Keller states that he has killed only one of the five who murdered his wife (though in the first book, he gets three); he gets the last two, and it is now all over. These repeated errors are distracting. Nevertheless, a good book. But flawed.

The title of this book is Ride the Red Sun Down and the author is Thomas Nicholson. The main character in this book is Marty Keller. He is a bounty hunter who is looking for 3 killers. He does not have any friends at first, but he does get the trust of some people that he meets. Five of the people, if the book went on or had a sequal, he most likely would have become friends with. The plot is kind of difficult and long. Marty is a Texas ranger and one time when he had been gone for a few days his wife and son were murdered. The people had shot the field hand 1st, but he ended up living for a few more days, so he was able to tell Marty's friends what had happened. When Marty got home his friends told him what his field hand had told them. There were 3 guys, but the only thing he could describe is that the oldest guy was missing a finger on his left hand. The next day Marty quit his job and went out to find his family's killers. The time is frontier days and the place is in the southwestern region of the United States and Mexico. The theme of this story is mystery. I really like this story because I love western and mystery books. When they're put together I can hardly get my nose out of the book.
