Helpful tips on how things work in Venice

I used this book when I was in Venice. It has great explanations on how to get around in Venice such as how the waterbus system works. Wonderful restaurant recommendations.

great guide--invaluable!

Just back from a week in Italy. So glad I bought this book and read it before the trip. Because I did I knew that reservations were needed for some sights (which the professor leading the tour was clueless about). Also very helpful information on eating and shopping. Just incredibly helpful. get Rick's guides to all your destinations.

Works well on a Kindle

I took this guidebook to Venice on my Kindle and found that it was completely adequate - no regrets or wishing for a paper copy. I took a separate, laminated travel map. There are hot links throughout the travel guide, including the table of contents so it is easy to find what you need. A touch of humor in the text. I wish I had downloaded the audio guides from Rick Steves' website - then it would have been perfect. I was able to take 2 novels along with the travel guide - don't think I will ever buy another paper travel guide again.

Great Guide...scavenger hunt idea and book for kids was great suggestion!!

We just returned from a trip to Venice and found Rick Steve's Venice 2006 book extremely helpful in navigating the city. We also took his advice regarding traveling with children (we have [...]) and used a scavenger hunt idea to keep them interested. We bought a kids book called "TREASURE HUNT VENICE" which was the ideal scavenger hunt for the kids to do. It truly was a perfect match in that the adults used the Rick Steve's book and the kids used the TREASURE HUNT VENICE book.

Great guide.

I just returned from Venice and depended upon this guide for general information, sightseeing guidance, and choosing my hotel. (I also used J.G. Links' Venice for Pleasure for sightseeing advice. Don't go to Venice without it!) I found Steves' book excellent. I stayed at a recommended hotel (Hotel Campiello) and it was just as described. The walks and museum tours are uniformly excellent. Only once did I have trouble and that is because a street named in the Rialto to Frari Church walk is either wrong or the sign identifying it is no longer there. However, the map in the book makes the route clear so that problem was cleared up in about thirty seconds. The writing is breezy, a bit irreverent, and easy to follow. The supplementary information is great. I used Steves' book on Amsterdam on a trip last year and was similarly impressed with that guide. He has me hooked as a steady customer and I will purchase his Rome book before my trip next year.
