Pocket size French phrase book

What I like about this is that it is pocket size so I can actually have it with me when I need it, and it gives more useful and practical phrases, like how to tell the taxi driver to SLOW DOWN!

You will not learn to speak French like a Frenchman, but...

There is good information in this book. If you are like me, like to travel but haven't got a firm grasp of any other language than English, then this book can help you a bit. It will not be a substitute for High school French, but you will find that by reading this book in preparation for your trip to Paris, it does help. And what more can you expect from a few pages besides a little help. Bon Voyage.

The only phrase book you'll need

I had two phrase books during my recent two-week visit to France and found that I really only used this one (and the Marling Menu Master). Common situations are covered extremely well and are easy to locate in the book. For example, if I needed to ask if a train was direct or was leaving from a certain track, the book easily allowed me to figure out how to say it. One night, I got locked out of a hotel (they locked the doors before 10!) and I was able to use the book to explain my predicament over the phone. The size is perfect too as it fit in the back pocket of my slacks. Rick Steve's books are great and this one is no exception.

Finally, The Mystery of The French Language Is Gone!

My husband and I are going to Paris for the first time next week. I just got the book yesterday and it is by far the most user friendly translation book. I have never taken a French class in my life and by this book breaking down phrases with simple English phonics makes all the difference. My husband and I are both fluent in Spanish and I can defend myself in Italian, but French was Greek to me. Thank you Rick Steves, now I can go to Paris with the confidence that I won't massacre the French language.

Excellent quick reference for the traveler, in any situation

Very helpful. Coded according to subject (food, accommodation, transportation), with phrases that satisfy any situation, and are sufficient to communicate without the need to use complete sentences. Gives the English, French, and French pronunciation... and many travelers books do not give the latter. Of 3 books I took with me to France, this was the one I used almost all the time, due to the ease of finding what I needed, and quickly.
