Star Commandos 00: Return

Sogan and Connor have some marital troubles - in the sense that she's a Commando Colonel and he's only an Army Captain, wich grinds him unceassingly. The team has to search and destroy a military base illegally developed on a under-populated planet. The fact that the denizens are mutants doesn't help either, as Sogan can't help but be horrified by them. The whole thing goes up with a bang and a lot of heroics. This was my first SC book, and I loved it. Highly recommended for those into space explosions and battleships.
