Remember Me: A Search for Refuge in Wartime Britain

I have read 100's of these books about Holocaust survivors and each one never fails to move me. This one was a bit different than most I have read. Marianne is a Jewish girl who gets sent to London on the first Kindertransport in WWII. She was not on the list and was a last minute shove on the train. This causes some trouble when arivial in London but she does get settled into a home where she is safe. She makes a friend at school but misses her Mother so very much. She doesn't know if her father is alive or not as he had to flee. No sooner is she settled in and has won a scholorship to grammer school than London evaculates the children to the country. Marianne ends up in Wales. What a time she has there. You learn a lot about how it felt to be shipped here and there as a child and also from the viewpoint of the teachers that went along. She has some strange arrangements at times....her last situation is at the very best of situations. You will love the book as a child or as an adult.

When eleven year old Marianne is taken on a kindertransport to London, England, without her mother she is terrified. Then she is taken to a house that doesn't really want her. She doesn't know what to do! She goes to school and meets a friend Brigdet. Soon World War II happened so she had to go to Wales with her school to hide. She starts living with these people who try and replace their dead daughter with Marianne. Will she ever find her mother? Read the book and find out. This is an exciting book that took me one day to read it because it was so good!

When war is declared, Mrs. Kohn decides that Berlin is not a good environment for he teenage daughter, Marianne, so she sends her on a ship that helps smuggle Jewish Refugees over into Liverpool, England into safety, but, parents were not allowed to go. Of course, Marianne did not want to leave her beloved mother to go to a foreign country. She couldn't even speak English! But Marianne has no choice. In Liverpool she is moved from foster family until finally she settles into a home. Will Marianne ever see her dear mother again? Read the book to see.
