Mr Ells is a Christian man, and therefore his books are written from an unabashedly Christian perspective. That said, he seems to have a deep understanding of the problem with co-dependence. This book gently leads the reader to insight and recovery. If I had any qualms, it would be this: he's so gentle, that I think if I had read this book in my 20's I might have missed the point. Read it carefully. It is a fine line to be sure, between being that supportive helpmeet the bible talks about, and being a dysfunctional co-dependent - but there IS a line, and you CAN define it, and I do pray you get well. The best insight I got from this book: Do not give love in order to get it. You may feel you are being "pure" but if you're honest with yourself, you can feel the difference. Whenever you give in order to get, it's a contract with expectations - and it's dicey.

My Secret Journal: From this day forward . . . I do not know what my future holds - But, I do know who holds my future When I began doing research for writing my book / journal "My Secret Journal," I accidentially found an article written by Alfred Ells called "Twelve Ways to Humble Yourself." The article left a lasting impression on me. I felt the need to review all of Alfred Ells work. To my surprise, he has written many "wonderful" books from his heart. As a reverend from "Leaders That Last Ministries," he is making a difference in the lives of many. For more information about Al's ministry, go to: www.leadersthatlast.org.
