Opening the Door

I can see how Steve was a bit disappointed in this work. The Reformation was, in part a political revolution. To establish the "Protestant" identity, any practice which could trace its roots to Rome was denounced, banned or even destroyed - the age of Rational Christianity was born. Emotional spirituality was looked upon with suspicion. With this book, Rice is reopening a door long closed. It is a look with post-reformation eyes on the great spirituality traditions discarded by the great philosophers of the Zurich Movementand their English successors, the Puritans. What Rice shows that even in the need to grow the new faith tradition based on logic and rationality, there was still the very human need to engage the heart when contemplating the divine. This is an excellent first book with resources to further delve into this subject. Inner Compass: An Invitation to Ignation Spirituality
