Loved, Loved this book - a book that stays with you days later...

Red owns a bar and has young boyfriend living a carefree honky-tonk life --- until her daughter from Iraq (who Red had when she was 16) calls and says that due to emergency Red has take care of her grandchildren. All the characters grow, learn to trust and develop into a family through this experience. The story has so many dimensions that I just couldn't put it down, Enjoy! If you enjoy this genre I would also suggest; Breathing Room, The Forever Summer,Falling For Gracie, Blame It On Paris and Saving Allegheny Green (Signature Select Spotlight).

Red's Hot Honky-Tonk Bar

This is a wonderful book. The story keeps unfolding as you read. It has love and discovery and sadness and great happiness. Red is in her forties, Cam is 15 years younger, a fiddler, and they are having a great affair. She hasn't told him about her daughter or grandchildren or past. He hasn't told her much of anything, either. She gets a phone call from her daughter, serving overseas, that she has to pick up her 2 grandchildren and take care of them for a while, as their other grandmother has had a stroke and is in the hospital. She's reluctant as she scarcely knows them and has only a one bedroom apartment above the honky-tonk bar she runs. She also feels that Cam will immediately ditch her. He doesn't. He takes to the kids, and they take to him. He offers his house to her and he'll live in her apartment. She's astonished to discover that he owns a house in a very nice part of town, and is a classical violinist as well as a 'fiddler' in a band. The kids finally adapt to her and quit calling her the 'bad grandmother', love the school, and love Cam. Read it. You'll love it.

CAM is mine....all MINE!

What a wonderful story! It is multi-layered and will tug at your heart strings. The character development is fantastic! I love to read a story where you know that you will remember the characters forever. That is hard to do when you read a lot of books. Often, I pick up a book and realize that I actually read it several years before. Even though I recognize the character's names, I don't really remember them. I will certainly remember CAM and RED for as long as my memory holds.... I also loved the cupcake scene! Hysterical! Now you have to read it just to know what we are talking about. I also love how the characters are multi-dimensional. It is satisfying to read a storyline where the characters hang in there with each other instead of misunderstanding and storming off all the time. The secondary characters are developed very well also. I enjoyed this book so much I almost wanted to be IN a book group just to discuss the various themes running though the story... I felt like I was there sitting outside on the patio watching the river flow by...while CAM was fiddling away... Don't miss out...read this one...

Another Winner by Pamela Morsi!

USA Today bestselling author Pamela Morsi has written another winner in RED'S HOT HONKY-TONK BAR released by MIRA books in July. Red Cullens, the heroine, is a fortysomething owner of a bar in downtown San Antonio. The hero, Cam, short for Campbell Smith Early, is a fiddle player and quite a few years younger than Red. At first glance, the reader may think this is just another story about a woman who finds herself in the "empty nest" and goes wild - buys a bar and gets a young stud. But then, this is a book by Pam Morsi. Red finds out she'll have to take care of grandchildren. She has a daughter serving in Iraq. Red also goes from thinking Cam is just a fiddle player to finding out he has his own house and has depths she never dreamed of. RED'S HOT HONKY-TONK BAR will make the reader laugh, especially the "cupcake" scene. Who knew there were so many kinds of cupcakes? This book will also make the reader cry and then smile. Red is a fully developed character even if she just wants to be a bar owner and doesn't want to be vulnerable to a man ever again, but fate has other ideas. The reader can feel the heroine's emotions as she tries to fight her destiny. Morsi writes great heroes, be they 20 years old or 80 years old. Cam is sensitive, but not a pushover. He helps Red, but doesn't overwhelm her. The city of San Antonio is also a character in this book - the San Antonio River, the construction always going on downtown, the Mexican food and the music. The aromas and the sounds of San Antonio come alive in the book along with the characters. Go out and get a copy of RED'S HOT HONKY-TONK BAR. You'll be glad you did.

Playing the hand you're dealt -- and playing it well...

"Red" Cullens has everything under control. The 46 year old bar owner loves her little honky-tonk in a forgotten part of San Antonio. The night-life lifestyle suits her; her hot young lover doesn't threaten her freedom and her friends (and patrons) know how to join her in having a good time. But one phone call turns her world upside down. In short order Red has to take custody of her two young grandchildren; her "boy toy", Cam, begins to push for a more permanent role in her life and the future of her beloved bar is threatened by plans to renovate her run down neighborhood. I loved this story! The characters were written with so much depth that I found myself thinking about them long after I had finished the book. While Red and Cam's relationship is central to the story this book touches on many issues - relationships between parents and children; how people can be defined by "class" and upbringing; the illusion of control that so many of us cling to. Very well done; I would highly recommend this book. One slight caution: While it is obvious that Red and Cam enjoy an enthusiastic sex life it is primarily conducted off page. Some readers might be disappointed by that.
