This manga is more for the mature audience. Nudity, violence, sexuality, war. This is manga like no other around at this time. Close to factual history of the what is current day Turkey, a young japanese girl named Yuri, is dragged through a puddle into another world. During the bronze era of ancient times. She haphazardly throws herself around and falls into the supporting arms of a prince. Turns out, Yuri was taken from her time to here to be killed by the Queen of the Hittites as a sacrifice to curse Prince Kail. The prince who saved her. He saves her and throughout the story, keeps her by his side, at first as a political ploy and to keep her safe from the queen. But as the story continues romance blossoms along with jealousy with many other historical figures trying to take her. She is given god like status as, Ishtar. Goddess of love, war, motherhood, etc. This story is delicious from start to finish. So much so, as other reviewers I hungered so much for the story to continue I ended up buying the whole japanese series to quench my hunger. The art and story is fantastic following along daintily to actual historical facts. Being a mature story it follows some serious moments that most manga don't touch as to make the reader feel to sad, or angry. It follows realistically the bad and the good of a life that might've happened as such. My only complaint is that Yuri is always more elegant appearing with her hair up, not the fluff she always has. Of course this manga was started in late 80's early 90's so my complaint can't really count. This story is engaging, romantic, heart breaking, and something most americans have never had the chance to see and read. A great book for the more mature audience.
A nice change

I first heard of Red River from my friend. She told me that I should give this a try since I love to read manga. Anyway, I bought the whole 28 books in Chinese and stayed up all night reading them..They are so hard to put down!! My husband came home from work only to find me still up and reading (I was reading when he left for work)! Imaging his horror! :O haha... Yuri is a normal Japanese girl who suddenly got sucked into a puddle on the street and is brought to Anatolia in ancient Middle East. The artwork is beautiful and the storyline is wonderful. The whole manga is such a page turner!!! It make you want to know what's going to happen to Yuri and Prince Kail next. The English version is on #5 now, still a long way to go, but it is worth the wait!! :) I am collecting the English version as well (for myself and my husband who cannot read Chinese) I am hooked on Shinohara Chie's manga ever since I bought the Red River! It is a wonderful manga that will leave you wanting to read them again and again...
