Red-Hot and Reckless by Miranda Lee Harlequin Presents # 1930 - January 1998 Scandals! themed series Ben was livid when he read the article in the newspaper from home. His grandmother was being threatened to sell her farm to the Hollingsworths for a shopping mall! And not just any Hollingsworth, it was Amber the rich spoiled princess from high school. The one he'd never quite gotten out of his system. Amber had returned to Sunrise Point after a disasterous marriage and bitter divorce, and had taken over the management of Hollinsworths when her father had a stroke. For the past three years, she's been trying to reshape the small town and make it thrive again. The town desperately needs the jobs the new shopping mall will create. She's shocked to read the accusations Ben's Gran made in the paper, and knew without a doubt that Ben would be arriving soon to take up the fight. Ms. Lee always gives us great characters, rich with passion. Ben quickly realizes that most of his life he'd been self-absorbed and had rarely taken the time to get to know anyone, esp. Amber. Amber was raised from three by hired help and though spoiled with material things, lacked real love and sense of belonging and often hid her emotions behind a cool princess mask. Meeting up with Ben again, Amber lets him see how easily he hurts her, this shakes every belief Ben once had of her. Great premise. My only complaint is that the story seems to take place over a few days only.
