Part travelogue, part culinary history, all capitalist critique--comedian Jamie Loftus's debut, Raw Dog, will take you on a cross-country road trip in the summer of 2021, and reveal what the creation, culture, and class influence of hot dogs says about America now. A Best Book of the Year from NPR and Vulture. Featured in: NPR Weekend Edition...
someone's personal journey for their perfect hotdog. never have i ever gone into a restaurant and wondered 'what do they do to their dogs?' until this book. i'm forever changed as a person and feel more open to trying a dog or two. funny, short, and sometimes insightful. i honestly was fascinated by the hot dog eating contest chapter, it was educating to say the least.
eta: i read the jungle by upton sinclair immediately after this and i have to recommend that move, it does take some of the glamour out of the hotdog and prevents you from making gastrointestinal mistakes
