From the Author, Linda Baxter As a child, my grandmother, Fern lived in a sod house in Nebraska. She told me the story about a young Native American boy who stole her hair ribbons and then returned with a special gift to protect her family. I was so enthralled with her tale that I began to research the setting where she grew up and the Lakota people who lived nearby. I wrote this story to preserve our family history for my children.
