Raising the Ruins: The Fight to Revive the Legacy of Herbert W. Armstrong

It's been interesting reading all the reviews, both for and against this book. Regardless of your feelings, this book should be at the top of your reading list if you have ever had any involvement with "The Plain Truth Magazine", "The World Tomorrow Program", Mr. Garner Ted or Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong, the Worldwide Church of God(WCG) or its offshoots. I don't usually write book reviews, but I have to say, this is one of the most fascinating non-fiction books I have ever read.....on several levels. First, the book is a tell-all, no-holds-barred expose of the WCG vs. PCG court case telling who did what and when and it even naming those responsible for their crimes. Secondly, this book has more twists and turns than a maze. It will leave you shaking your head in disbelief. This book proves once again, that fact IS stranger than fiction. Thirdly, this is the true story of how just one man and a handful of supporters stood up and took on an organization with tens of thousands more people and thousands of times more money.....and against all odds got all the books they so desperately wanted and more. Don't believe in miracles? You think one person can't make a difference? Then you need to read this book. It WILL change you. These story lines alone would be enough to make this book a fascinating read, but wait, there's more! It is also the story of how a few of the most talented con-men of all time conspired to take over the WCG and then lied, charmed, misled and deceived their way to the top. Next they hoodwinked over 100,000 church members. And then finally, with a cadre of Hollywood lawyers, they successfully lied and manipulated their way past judge after judge in the court system and walked off with hundreds of millions of dollars! Hard to believe? Yes! Will they get away with it Scot-free? For that answer my friend, you will have to read the book because you won't want to miss a word. And yeah, it's well worth the 20 bucks. I remember Mr. Armstrong from when I was a teenager.I was never that "religous" but I knew how to read and all he did was tell the plain truth just like God had it written.I never knew what happened to him until recently.Anyone who ever had a "friend" stab them in the back can relate to this book.The battle lines are clearly drawn.You must choose a side. Don't trust any one.Proove all things.

The events that transpired up to the writing of this book are nothing short of spectacular. Unlike many other courtroom thrillers, The story in these pages is relentlessly refrenced. The facts themselves are enough to tell the story and need little assistance from the Author. Although as narrators go, Mr. Stephen Flurry is a comfortable travel guide. Having read through this book myself, i can guarantee that if you approach it with an open mind, you will be hard pressed to put it down. And when you do, it will nag at you until you pick it up again. The little known facts of this story will have a special relevance to those involved, but by no means is this a closed door event. Even people with no interest in religious tommyrot will find this a compelling read, showcasing all angles of human nature. I am genuinely sorry for anyone who passes up this story.

A real life story, that staggers the mind. It gave inspiration to this underdog when faced with insurmountable coruption to hang in there in faith until my foes simply hung themselves. I have not been this excited by a book in a long time. A real page turner and a must read for every student of law and life.

It is a superb read for anyone who has ever seen or heard of Mr. Armstrong and his worldwide work. What on earth happened after he died? Why did it happen? How did it happen? Riveting and powerful, well researched and masterfully written. A truly enlightening journey to discover the truth behind the failure of "Tkachism."
