Book Overview

Reba Lafferty was a daughter of privilege, the only child of an adoring father. Nord Lafferty was already in his fifties when Reba was born, and he could deny her nothing. Over the years, he quietly settled her many scrapes with the law, but he wasn't there for her when she was convicted of embezzlement and sent to the California Institution for Women. Now, at thirty-two, she is about to be paroled, having served twenty-two months of a four-year sentence...

Story is great but shipper is not.

This was described as very good. It was in fact in poor condition and looked as if had been through a war. Purchased as part of a gift with the very good status. Will go to recycling.

Great Book....But it wasn't Jerry Vale Singin' That Song!!

I've read 'em all!! And I enjoy the descriptions Sue Grafton gives..isn't that what makes a good author, one that can paint pictures with words!?? However, when the song, "It's All In The Game" started playing on the juke box, Kinsey/Sue said it was Jerry Vale!! Don't think so!! Tommy Edwards had the hit with that one. :-) I guess she's allowed one mistake. ;-)

Exactly what I expected

I received my book very promptly and the book was exactly what you expect from a Millhone mystery. It was suspenseful and ended on the trade mark happy but not super unrealistic note.

Fun to Read

Sue Grafton has done another wonderful job with this book in the series. The main action scheme was a little uninteresting to me and I'm glad she didn't go into great detail about the connection with the FBI and different government agencies. However, the subplots were fun and exciting. I like how the author describes the scenery right down to the sights, smells, and sounds, plus she gives an insight into the history of the place. Sometimes you feel like you are right there with the characters - you feel the anxiety, the pain, and the rush of being right about your hunches. A new twist in this book features a love interest for Kinsey. I thought the author did an excellent job in describing Kinsey's mixed feelings - both cautious and passionate. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next!

Satisfying and Worth the Wait

What begins as an easy assignment, pick up and babysit a newly paroled embezzler, turns out to be complicated. Kinsey is hired by an ailing octogenarian to pick up his daughter Reba from the correctional facility and babysit her for a few days until she gets settled. From day one Kinsey suspects there is more the Reba than what she is telling. And, it seems Reba, rather than Kinsey is the one calling all the shots.Meanwhile, Henry and his brothers drive each other crazy, Rosie is bossy as usual and Kinsey has a little romance.Ms. Grafton does not disappoint with Kinsey's latest adventure. Ricochet is a fast-paced investigation in which she plays the supporting role. As usual the story is well researched and interesting. Kinsey eats QPs and makes friends with Reba - it is nice to see Kinsey have a gal pal.

Superb entry

Santa Teresa private detective Kinsey Millhone is hired by wealthy Nord Lafferty to pick up his daughter at the California Institute for Women and get her through the first few days of freedom. Out on parole, Reba takes to Kinsey and the two women go out to dinner together when her former boss Alan "Beck" Beckwith arrives at the restaurant. He invites himself to have a drink with the two women and Kinsey knows she has been set up by a pro.She pretends to leave but watches them making love in the back seat of Beck's car. Kinsey does not understand this tryst because he is the person Reba embezzled the funds from and never made restitution. Reba believes that she and Beck are going to run away together but the Feds are closing in on him for money laundering. They have pictures of Beck in bed with her boss's friend and regardless of the consequences, Reba is determined to get even with him but the authorities want Reba to help them their way . Kinsey wants to stop her before she goes too far and is put back in prison but can she get through to the woman she has come to care about in time.Readers are not going to believe what happens to Kinsey in R IS FOR RICOCHET. She becomes involved with a man and it looks like the relationship might last at least one more book. Even though Reba breaks the law and the rules set down by her parole officer, readers, like Kinsey, cannot help but care for the vulnerable waif with steel for a spine. Once again, this author shows that S G stands for Superb and Great.Harriet Klausner
