Great Book, Unique and Creative patterns

This is an excellent book with just one drawback (in my mind). The good part: The patterns are simple enough that anyone can make them with a little effort, but complex enough that friends won't ask if your kid made them! They are unique and creative and span multiple interests/styles. Therefore I highly recommend this book if you like piecing and want patterns for pretty and unique looking quilts. The drawback for me: I am finding the instructions very frustrating to follow. Granted I chose one of the more complex quilt tops to make, but I do a fair amount of quilting and have used patterns from several books and don't usually have any trouble following them. This particular pattern uses several fabrics and has several shapes/pieces to cut(as many as 20 in the case of the background fabric). It lists all the fabrics by color with what size pieces to cut at the beginning and then a couple pages later has some pictures of the blocks going together. Nowhere that I can find does it show the finished size of any of the blocks (which vary). Nor does it list the sizes of the fabric pieces with the block pictures. SO you're left to go dig through the LONG list of pieces to find the ones in the current block you're making, cross reference the number/letter after the cutting instructions back to the picture, add up their sizes, then subtract the seam allowances to make sure you're getting it right. In some cases it uses the same picture for multiple blocks that are similar but not exactly the same, so once again you're left to go find the fabric measurements to second check your work. It is a complex pattern but I find myself constantly flipping back and forth through pages, cross referencing things, scribbling notes, going back... The author could have spared me all of this if she'd just included the measurements with the pictures of the blocks. Nevertheless -- the quilt I'm making will be ADORABLE once I'm done and I find that despite my 3 foot high stack of quilt books, I keep going back to hers for patterns.

My Kind of Quilting

I love to quilt. I love patterns that do not have applique, curved seams, or take a tremendous amount of time and effort. I have a full time night nurse job and like projects that look great and are different and entertaining. This book fulfills all the above. The paterns are easy, even for the beginning quilter and look great. The topics are fun and unusual. Ms Bono has let us tap into her very creative mind with patterns that bring smiles to the quiltist as well as those who see the finished projects. There's a lot of variety here. This is well worth adding to your library.
