Gave me a good foundation for solid play

After playing for a year in home games and doing fairly well, I decided to read up a bit more. Neil Myers book was then handed to be by a friend. Simply put, the book is an asset to understanding Hold'em and giving you a foundation to grow your skills on. He doesn't throw all kinds of unnecessary terms, ideas, or all the concepts at you in one swoop. The book was meant to give you a good idea of what to do in common play scenarios and a bit beyond. It won't make you an pro, as the book was not designed to do. It is designed to help you play smart poker. After absorbing a lot of the concepts, I used them at the table and at online games. In instances where I would of normally called or raised, his book enlightened me to fold. It has saved me a lot of time, money, and taught me to be patient with the game. The bottom line is if you don't have a good hand, toss the cards. His book explains why. Quick and Easy Texas Hold'em is an asset to anyone who wants to study it and use it to play better poker at any entry level player.

Playing Hold'em to Win

Most poker players don't bother to read books, assuming they already know how to play winning poker. That's a big mistake. Meyer's thorough introduction to Texas Hold'em provides excellent guidelines for playing winning poker. He tells you which hands to play pre-flop, and includes a discussion of the importance of position when making decisions. He is more conservative than most other authors in selecting which hands to fold, but the soundness of his advice becomes obvious as you play the game. Meyers'discussion of post flop play is thorough and gives the reader many insights into this complex game. The lessons are taught in very understandable language and the essential elements of the game are covered. By adopting the conservative methods taught in this book, especially how to win by folding, the newcomer to Texas Hold'em will save himself a great deal of money and anguish. Other reviewers of this volume claim that similar information is available on the Internet, but this book contains all you need to know to get started playing the most fascinating game of poker that exists. There are more advanced books than Quick and Easy Texas Hold'em. But for the beginner - and there are millions of them out there, now that the game has become so popular on TV - this book is just what your banker ordered and well worth the price.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I am personally intimidated about the idea of playing poker. Someone at my church recommended that a few of us get together for a friendly game of Texas Hold'Em. Well, I didn't even know what that was or how to play it. I thought poker began and ended with 5-Card Stud, which is definitely not the case anymore. I stumbled onto this book and was relieved at the ability Myers has to present something that is potentially very complicated and dry, in a simple straightforward way. It's entertaining to read as well. I also found the DVD to be a very useful tool; you get to see the concepts that are described in the book actually used, which helps to reinforce what you've read. I practiced on line with a poker site (as practice, not for cash) and used the concepts from this book to do it. After awhile, I saw that if I stuck with the strategy, I would have done very well. So here I am. Someone who is embarrassed about his lack of knowledge about poker and got the courage to play by using this book and DVD. If I think it works, perhaps there are others out there (like me) who will find it works for them as well. It seems that we are the audience who this book was written for, that is, beginners. I highly recommend it.

Solid

...This is a modestly written book intended to give recreational poker players an intelligent approach to poker in moderation. If you follow the tips within, you'll better understand how to play a friendly game of poker and come out on the winning end. Bottom Line: If you are new to this popular game or are in need of some winning tips, this is the book to get. Complete with instructional DVD, it truly is, as the title says, "Quick and Easy". ...

Book Pays for Itself!

This is a very informative book that helped me out quite a bit as a beginner. A great thing about it is the DVD that comes with the book. As I was watching it, I thought how come no one else thought of this. It's a great way to learn, goes great with the book and no offense to the author, but gives a spoonful of sugar to an otherwise dry and mathematical topic. The book more than paid for itself after one 'friendly' card game
