Puzzle Journey Through Time

My 6 year old and I are used to the Leigh/Haw Usborne Puzzle books - Puzzle Castle, Puzzle Ocean etc. The Leigh/Haw books are cartoony and fantastic - lots of fun and we own many. Puzzle Journey through Time is similar in that there are mazes to solve and items to find in the pictures. However, Journey through Time is more realistically depicted and the kids visit real places and times, where they encounter the puzzles. On our recent vacation my girl recognized Roman style feasts (they ate lying down) and items from King Tut's tomb, having seen them in this book. Along with the realism comes some real world peril - for example, the Emperor Caligula calls for the guards to take the kids away and kill them after one spills wine on him. Of course they escape unharmed, but this may be less good for the 3 year old set unless there is some editing done by the out-loud reader. I liked the book a lot and so did my girl. I will be ordering the other books in this series.

This book is a story but more than that. It has puzzles on each page. In fact it has so manay different puzzles you can read it several times over and learn new things while you solve the puzzles. Each page has a puzzle or a maze or a question to answer or something to find. In addition there are lost items to find, and so on. It is a great book and lots of fun.
