Christian Healing Records and Appraisals Today

For 18 years I have been researching and publishing on the miracles received by early AAs when they were cured of alcoholism by the power of God. I needed to examine a host of well written and researched books that presented the full picture of healing by the power of God through the ages. My son presented me with Morton Kelsey's paperback. And I have cited and used it many times since. He is a highly educated clergyman and scholar. He says: "My wife, Barbara, and I have been in many different church groups over the last twenty years. Except for the Penetcostal seminaries, we have found that, of the hundreds of Christian seminaries, less than half a dozen offer any courses in the religious dimensions of healing. In most seminaries the subject is dismissed with scorn." Alas, that's the picture in "most" A.A. meetings today when one mentions God, the Bible, Jesus Christ, or cure. AAs were sold a bill of goods by co-founder Bill Wilson when he repudiated his own eloquent statement that the Lord had cured him of his terrible disease (drunkenness) and that he just wanted to keep telling people about it. But he didn't. Despite the fact that almost every early AA declared that he had been cured of alcoholism by the power of God, Wilson wrote four years later in A.A.'s basic text a canard that alcoholism cannot be cured. Not even by God! Well, I have been. And I am sometimes treated with scorn in my talks and books to that effect. It is important then to have someone who has surveyed the Christian healing scene and reported the facts. Kelsey does just that. And his book is very useful in examining evidence.
