Alter Histoire: un petit agregat d'historiens s'est forme, irregulier dans ses reunions, inconstant dans ses fidelites, changeant dans ses projets, obstine cependant en une obsession : exalter l'imagination libre de l'historien, admirer la force du possible, intervenir en vue d'accroitre le desordre. Cette obsession libertaire entrainait des attitudes polemiques : refus de la reconstitution du passe, mefiance des systemes de description et d'explication. Que faire ? Pratiquer une histoire experimentale, qui par un dereglement systematique(l' " estrangement "), cherche a deplacer, defamiliariser l'objet historique. Voici donc un manifeste et des essais ou l'on decouvrira quelques etrangetes instructives ou plaisantes : une commercante juive du XVIIIe siecle est, au fond, une paysanne allemande, a moins qu'elle ne poursuive une speculation plus intellectuelle que financiere. La tectonique des plaques rend compte de l'electorat breton. Les metaphores nous entourent. Ignace de Loyola rejoint Descartes sur une route, avant de subir les remontrances d'un disciple de Confucius, tandis que les Francs de Clovis deviennent convertibles.

These books were purchased for the opening of a new kindergarten on the Pine Ridge (Sioux) Indian Reservation in So. Dakota.
