PS, Not a fan.

I felt rushed through this book, I wanted the slow painful heartache she felt and it just didn’t do anything for me. This one-for me at least, I felt like the movie was better.

great book, much better than the movie

This novel is one of the many examples of why books are better than movies. I've only read one exception to that rule, and that's Forrest Gump (goodness, that book was terrible!!!). I watched the movie before I picked up the book, and though the movie was cute and adorable in a romantic comedy/Hollywood sort of way, the book is much more detailed and whole and realistic. Holly is a great, true-to-life character. The reader is with her through every emotion that she has, and what a roller-coaster of emotions! Which makes sense, considering she just lost the love of her life and her soul mate. Chapter by chapter, month by month, she picks up the pieces of her life and puts herself back together, and you're with her every step of the way. And I don't just mean physically, but emotionally, also. I felt for Holly. There were times when tears almost slipped down my cheeks. This is not your typical chicklit. It is a story about a girl, going through tough times and then finding herself at the end. Which is a concept usually associated with chicklit. But usually the girl falls in love with a handsome, witty man. This book, PS, I Love You, is more than that. It's a girl learning to love herself and coping with life after it almost destroys her. This story is definitely a unique representation of tragedy and personal reconstruction. It is light reading; I read it quickly mostly because I didn't want to put it down! The language flows smoothly and succinctly. Holly's family and friends were characters that were funny and sympathetic, crazy and adoring. They were the foundation of the book, and the support system for Holly's character; she would not have been so successful if it weren't for them. Go ahead, watch the movie. But I recommend reading the book, too. You will learn more about the characters and delve into more detail about love, life, and finding personal happiness.

Wonderful Read!

My friend had borrowed this book before me and finished in one week and told me I just had to read it... Now I know why! I loved this book not only because it had a great story line, but it also really draws you into the book. The characters all have their own unique personalities. This story is not only heartwarming but I guarantee it will stay with you even after you had read the book! The book really gets you to identify and even bond greatly with the main character as she goes through different stages in her life after the death of her loved husband. You can tell how much these two loved each other and how love has a a way of staying with someone so deeply after death. This book brought out many emotions that we all have felt at one time or another. I highly recommended this book!

A journey in life

Cecilia Ahern is extremely talented and creative. This book caught my eye in the bookstore - and I thought why not try a new author. After reading PS I Love You, I was thrilled with my decision. At times I found myself laughing out loud and at other times, her poignant writing style left me in tears as one walks through this emotional journey with Holly - the main character. I am eagerly anticipating her next novel Rosie Dunne. This book is definitely worth reading. It is a book that engages the reader and leaves you wanting more!

Beautiful

Holly always joked that she would never be able to live without the love of her life Gerry. Having been an item since Junior High Holly and Gerry were always there for each other. Jokingly Gerry once said that he would leave her a list if he ever left, so that she could get through life without him... Months after the couple married Gerry was disgnosed with a life threatening illness which he finally sucommed to and passed away. Holly was devestaded and simply did not know what to do without her other half. For months she grieved alone in her home, until the day her mother calls telling her that she has a package for her. All she knows is that the package has her name on it along with one word, LIST! Upon recieving the package Holly finds that Gerry did indeed leave her a list! There are tiny notes for each month, not to be opened until the date on the envelope, each is a cleaver thing to help Holly get her life back together without him, all ending with the phrase, PS I LOVE YOU! PS I LOVE YOU is an amazing story of love and loss. It will have you laughing and crying. I highly recommend this book.

Loved it!

I couldn't put this book down! I was crying one minute and laughing out loud the next. Being 31, married with two young children, it really makes me see things in a different light. I don't know if I could be as strong as Holly was. This was an awesome read. I highly recommend it.
