Great Service, great price and excellent commentary. Couldn’t be more happy.

This was recommended as a devotional commentary from the past. I can’t speak highly enough of this commentary. Newer commentaries don’t have the same feel as this classic. Very biblical and trustworthy.

Bridges opens the treasures of Proverbs

Sometimes older is better. Not that Birdges is ancient, but from a nineteenth century perspective, Charles Bridges opens for us a wealth of insight into Proverbs. I used this commentary while teaching from Proverbs and found this brief commentary invaluable. Bridges wealth of knowledge along with his insights from many others who have written on Proverbs in the past is invaluable. The book is straightforward and easy to read. It's not technical, but simple richly spiritual.

The Best There Is on the Subject

The Christology of John Owen Proverbs by Charles Bridges provides an excellent model for Christ-centered exposition of the text of Proverbs, useful for practical, Christ-centered family worship, soul-searching personal devotions and for jump-starting preparations or helping on the practical applications of topical messages. It is one of the most moving and useful biblical commentaries I have ever read. I have always thought Bridges' definition of "the fear of the Lord" was the best I heard and worth the price of the book. I think every Christian home should have one. See also his commentary on Psalm 119 and his work on the Christian Ministry.

A Worthwhile Commentary

Bridges lived from 1794-1869, and wrote this wonderful commentary, originally entitled An Exposition of the Book of Proverbs, which became a classic. It's language was updated in 1978 by George F. Santa, and it was republished by Mott Media as, "A Modern Study In The Book of Proverbs." Santa only revised the obviously archaic terminology from Bridges' time, and left the work with much of it's original beauty of expression. It's a very worthwhile book, and well stocked with scripture cross-references in the margins, and a helpful topical index, for ease of use.

Great reference or study tool..

This book is very thorough and comes with very good references on every proverb, relating it to other verses in the Bible. It makes a terrific personal study guide or guide to create a study for others. There is lots of commentary that is sure to shed light on so many verses that you will be sure to highlight and refer to this book often. Excellent book, well worth the money. I've had mine for 8 years now and treasure it.
