It's far, far better than the other reviewer would have you believe. The characters are so well-developed & involving. The detail in the book is fantastic; it's not some run-of-the-mill romance novel. It's much better than that. The heroine, Ema is a fascinating character, rising from the lowest depths (emotionally and financially) to being a woman of power. It was a pretty believable rise, too. All the novel's characters are well rounded, interesting people. Also, the author paid a great deal of attention to getting the time period details (1914-1962), just right. I really hated to have the story end.
