Wishing to control the outcome of her father's hat contest, because she knows she must marry the winner, Princess Abigail accepts the help of a strange green lizard from the forest. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Princess Abigail and the Wonderful Hat is a fantastic story that is a combination of many classic fairytales. The entertaining characters, such as Prince Grindstone and the hat-obsessed king are well described. The pictures help bring the story to life. The idea of creating hats is both creative and silly, but it creates a wonderful new fairytale. I have treasured this book since I was a child, and I will continue to love it for the rest of my life.
Appreciation from an Art teacher

I find it hard to believe two things -- one, that Patience Brewster has never won a Caldecott, and two that so many of the books that she has illustrated are out of print. We've missed the boat! The illustrations in this book are simply magical. What fun to have a new fairytale!
