Primrose and the Magic Snowglobe

In an age where children are growing up way too fast and being exposed to all sorts of adult things, it's nice to find innocent children's books. A dwarf a gargoyle and a gremlin all have a problem and seemingly the same one. They ask the fairies, who are powerful problem solvers, for their help. Primrose and her "great brain" lead this fairy mission. This book does not contain anything questionable even for little children; however, it is more of a middle grade reading level. I think it would be ideal for third grade readers. It is fun family reading and what I consider a true children's book.

I have been looking for Christmas books to inspire me. We are going slim this year with the economy the way it is. This book takes place at Christmas but it is not a Christmas tale. The plight of the gargoyle, dwarf and goblin is unusual. I'm not sure if the fairies really help their fellow magical beings but they do lead them on a path of self discovery. A magic WishMaker character ends up surprising us at the end. This is an interesting book and I enjoyed it, quick and fun reading.

I loved this installment of what has become my favorite new fantasy children's series. I love to immerse myself in children's books and revert back to childhood on lazy afternoons, especially with enchanting adventures such as this one. A gremlin, dwarf, and gargoyle are having strange urges that are unexplainable. The fairies are called to help them. Solving the mystery results in finding the Wishmaker, a man with a magic snow globe who can grant wishes. The adventure is exciting and has a surprising ending. I really enjoyed it.

I have always encouraged my kids to share their books with friends. I just think it's a good idea, even though we occasionally don't get them back and some are returned in less than perfect condition. My daughter refused to share this book, her current favorite, until we had made a bookcover for it. (Her idea. I was so proud of her creative thinking.) She said it would get bent up and gum stuck on it. So we made a bookcover for it out of magazine pages and using a glue stick. Now she is happy to share the book. (I did tell her if it gets messed up I'll get her a new one.) What I think fascinates her about this fairy book is the girl characters and not so much the flying around with magic wands. She really likes the girls and enjoys reading about them. She also enjoyed the gargoyles and gremlins in this particular Fairy Chronicles book.

This was really fun to read. It has a slight Christmas theme, taking place at Christmastime and centering around a magic snow globe. This is a nice summer book to read to escape the heat. Having read the first book in this series, in which gremlins are entirely bad, I loved reading about Ripper, who is a pretty nice gremlin. He likes to fix things instead of breaking them. That is so cute and refreshing. Primrose is a nice character and tends to use her head instead of relying on magic. The illustrations in the book are beautiful, and there is a really touching illustration of Luna healing Primrose's ankle. I do recommend this book.
