Old student

Dr. Barackman was a Bible School professor of mine. The book is "basically" his Theology class notes put into book form. I have purchased this book for several of my pastors/friends and ALL have enjoyed it. One thought it was the most practical theology book he had seen/used. Very conservative/fundamental.

Best Hands On Theology Book for Pastors & Laymen Alike

Barackman has compiled a concise but thorough practical theology that outlines matters of both doctrine and practice. Unlike multi-volume works, this book puts doctrine at your fingertips. Although multi-volume works may be more detailed, none are more "packed" nor less intimidating. I use this for lesson preparation, I bought copies for each of my elders, and I give a copy to those I have discipled or want to develop more deeply. This book needs to get into the hands of our church leaders, but pastors will also get a lot of use from this one.The author is Pre-millennial, Dispensational, eteranlly secure, and holds to inerrancy. Pastors/laymen from Bible Churches, Ev. Free Churches, Baptist, Grace Brethren, and numerous other evangelical/fundamental denominations and fellowships will probably agree with the doctrinal and practical content of this work. As a graduate of Moody Bible Institute, I find this book very much in line with sound doctrine.Do not be deceived: though this is only one volume and concise, it strikes me as quite scholarly. A truly helpful tool for hands on ministry, and a solid theological education for the untrained.

Great outline and reference

In this amazing outline study of the Great Doctrines of the Christian Faith author Floyd H. Barackman does a thorough job of examining each doctrine and the Scriptural basis for it. I've seen several books on Biblical and Church doctrine but none have covered as many doctrines in as much detail in a single volume. This is possible mainly because of the outline format of the book. Mr. Barackman does not spend a lot of time discussing the details and implications of each doctrine but basically states the position and provides the Bible verses that support that position. He also mentions other doctrinal positions and why he feels that they are incorrect (also with Bible verses to support his position). Just who is Floyd H. Barackman that he should be writing a book like this? He was an Instructor of Systematic Theology at Practical Bible Training School in New York where he taught for twenty-five years. He has pastored several Baptist churches and authored several Bible study materials. With this strong Baptist background the doctrines have a decidedly Baptist slant at times, but each position is still put forward professionally and the Biblical basis supplied. As a single volume reference on Christian doctrine "Practical Christian Theology: Examining the Great Doctrines of the Faith" is a monumental work and very highly recommended.

Outstanding Practical Evangelical Theology

This is one of the best concise theological works I've read, don't let it's single volume fool you - it is a serious work. I give it five stars for being systematically consistent throughout, and still being practical as it's title suggests. It makes a great practical reference book for any believer's library. Highly recommended for serious students, pastors, bible study leaders, and lay persons alike.

One of the best Systematic Theology texts available!

This is one of the best texts in Systematic Theology from a conservative dispensational Baptist perspective. It is one of the few texts in this subject which takes on certain practical issues that other authors have ignored. It is well documented and well researched, and would make a great addition to any Baptist Pastor's or Theologian's library.
