Great read.

I was looking for a book, one that would satisfy my craving for a really good book. (Lately, its been hard to find a good author). And then when I stumbled on this page, I got a subtle sense that I had landed on something rare and wonderful. Boy was I right!! This book is awesome! It's written in alternating narations. Very entertainging, a bit of suspense, very fast-paced, three dimensional characters. Did I mention they have psychic powers? What I like most is the characters. Not all authors can develop their characters quite as well as Jacobs has done. Her characters have basic tragic flaws, are very human, very relateable, and very realistic. Adrian for example (dont worry, i'm not spoiling it for you,) acts and thinks like a real teenage guy. Jacobs has a real TALENT for creating multi-dimensional characters. There is a subtle romance involved. It's interesting to see how this aspect intertwines with the book - making it more amusing and humourous. Now, I cant spoil it by telling you how it happens. You'll just have to trust me. Overall, I couldnt think of a flaw in the book except that it reads quite fast. (Around two or three sittings). Nevertheless, this flaw does not hinder the book's plot or character development. I liked it so much. Perhaps the author can make a sequel, eh?

POWERS surveys events from different perspectives and draws readers into a compelling leisure read

Deborah Lynn Jacobs' POWERS tells of a girl who has [psychic dreams and a boy who reads her mind: the two are drawn together by their powers - but they can't stand each other and don't trust one another. Written in Gwen and Adrian's contrasting voices, POWERS surveys events from different perspectives and draws readers into a compelling leisure read which probes the nature of cooperative relationships and struggle.

Good...

But it seems like it could have been longer. She could have explored the powers much more, like giving it a history. Why these characters? Where did these gifts come from? Why didn't they act more surprised at having more powers? On top of this who was this arsonist? Many questions were left unanswered so maybe this is a part one of a sequel... Overall it was a pretty good book. I personally loved Adrian. He was a real character and someone I could relate to.

Thanks for the Synergy.

"Powers" would be a great gift for anyone, male or female, who likes exploring mystic possibilities such as telepathy, or who has an open, inventive mind. The male character, Adrian, tells Gwen, the female reporter who's struggling with issues as varied as her weight to her possible role in the deaths of people who have crossed her path, that something happens when they're together. "Synergy," Gwen explains to Adrian. "Two forces, working together to produce a greater effect than the sum of their parts." I felt that synergy as I followed the lives of these well-developed characters, identifying with their emotions and learning not only about them, but a bit more about myself, too. Deb Jacobs is an up and coming author who knows how to tantalize and delight her readers.

Powerful teen read

Gwen and Adrian are attracted to each other, but not in the usual way. In fact, their first impression of one another is anything but favorable. Still, even when their dislike for one another mounts to new heights, there is no denying that there is something between them, something they don't understand at first, something that makes them experience strange things, see the future, read minds. Deborah Lynn Jacobs has not only created a realistic teen setting peppered with all the complications and curiosities of teen life, but she has added an interesting new twist to her novel - that of special powers. "Powers" is more than just a well-crafted novel. It has a compelling plot, multi-dimensional characters the reader cares about, and a fresh angle I haven't seen anywhere else.
