Book Review

I LOVE Charlaine Harris. This book was a good buy, and Charlaine's short story in it is amazing.

Great read for lovers of mystery and fantasy!

I picked up this book because I am a huge fan of Sharon Shinn. I was delighted to discover that her story, while wonderful fun, was not even my favorite. The short stories have inspired me to check out other works by the contributors-mystery and fantasy. It's a great read for fans of mystery, fantasy or short stories in general.

new authors to love!

i bought this for Simon green's story and i loved it. great story of the nightside. i read Ann bishop's story and i really like it so now iam off to read more about her. this price is hard to beat and worth every penny for all the new authors i found!

What a fun hodge-podge

These tales range from series continuations, like Simon R Green's Nightside and Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series to what seem to be standalone stories - I am not sure, but if they are continuations of series, they are done quite well. I don't believe that you need to have read any of the above mentioned series to understand these stories. There is only one Sci Fi story in the bunch - all the rest are fantasy mysteries. Lots of murder, lots of dun-da-dun-dun logic, solving the mysteries. In fact, though I'm not a serious fan of the mystery genre, I found most of the stories in this book to be quite enjoyable. Overall, since it's easy to put down - there are 12 separate stories under 220 or so pages - I recommend this book for those who love to read fantasy but don't have time for the epics these days. mayhem in a whimsical fantasy setting

This twelve story collection anthology combines elements of the mystery and fantasy genres into a fantastic rewarding experience. Each tale is top rate and several include popular characters such as Sookie Stackhouse and known locales like Nightside. The contributors are top players from in their own genre, but had no problem placing a foot in the area they normally do not frequent. Each author insured that the magical elements seemed real drawing the reader into becoming a believer for the moment yet did not crimp on the mystery components whether it is an investigation of a murder by mythological creatures, magical Alaskan charmers, a school to rival Potter's alma mater, or a legal thriller with quite a jury of ones peers. The crossing of the two genres works on all levels so that the audience of either will appreciate mayhem in a whimsical setting. Harriet Klausner
