To risk uncovering one's humanness

"When you read this book, you find yourself pausing to remember holy pieces of yourself and a human relationship with divinity. I found the book delightfully rich which encourages us to seek the deeper meaning that make up a human life. It is a powerful book that radiates compassion and a willingness to take the risk of uncovering one's humanness" Naz Remtulla

Finding Purpose in Giving

The "Power of Giving", so beautifully and profoundly written, forces one to ask fundamental questions about our sense of purpose in this increasingly complex world. The gentle messages of love, compassion and giving are found on every page of this book. We read about real life situations that address the most basic elements of our humanity--- with all it's strengths and all it's vulnerabilities. "The Power of Giving" is a spiritual awakening, but it is also a sensible and practical guide to the many possibilites and methods of giving. Azim and Harvey teach us that "giving" is more about loving than anything else. Giving inspires us to get outside of ourselves and to have an increased awareness of "the other". The authors encourage us to give what we can whether it be time, money, acts of kindness or gentle touches. Thankyou Harvey and Azim for giving us your book.

... both inspirational and practical

This book is both inspirational and practical! I grew up listening to the motto "the more you give, the more you have" but despite this being ingrained in me from an early age, the act of giving can sometimes be a struggle. This book gives you options on how you can give (it doesn't have to be money) and reminds you of the benefits of giving (which are more vast than the obvious ones that come to mind). The anecdotes are touching and set the mood for wanting to give! Whether you are an individual (young or old) or an organization (big or small), this book is both a useful and pleasurable read and will cultivate your spirit of giving. It can even serve as a great gift as a gesture of your gratitude to someone who has given something to you! Can you tell I've read the book!?! ... and I plan to read it a few more times!

an incredibly useful and inspiring book

I'm not used to doing book reviews but I had to write one about this great book on giving. When I think of giving it's always meant: money. But this book opened my eyes to the many ways we can all give. It made me examine the times I've given and the times people have given to me and that was a personal eye-opener. I particularly liked the combination of stories, inspiration and practical ideas that I can apply to my life. There are some fine exercises to help you figure out your own giving priorites and a very nice section on teaching children to give. The book has a comprehensive look at giving that I think will benefit all readers because one of the book's themes is that giving benefits the giver as much as the recipients. I got this book as a gift. And I can tell you I'm very grateful to my friend who gave me this inspiring present. In return my friend will get to share a very nice bottle of wine and a gourmet dinner with me. Thus proving to her, and me, that giving benfits everyone involved.

Give this book to everyone you know!!!!

I loved this book!! It inspired and moved me and helped to channel my desire to give in practical and meaningful ways! It helped me to realize I don't have to give money alone -- giving more time to my family and the things I care for most, is an important act of giving. The book teaches how to help your children to learn to give. So many examples and great stories.. A pleasure to read, I'm buying copies to give as gifts - to friends, family, co-workers and clients. And the fact that authors are donating all the money from this book to charity makes me want to buy it even more!!
