An excellent basic instruction manuel

There are some folks who like to piddle around in a program to figure out how it works and have a good foundation for doing so from other programs they've used. But I bought this book on the recommendation of those reviewers who praised the "basic approach" that it takes. I don't have a manual for Poser 6. I don't even have Poser 6. But spending $17.24 for this book and downloading a demo of Poser 6 is far less expensive than buying the full program for $250 and finding out it isn't what I thought it was or it's far more intricate than what I need. Even if I opt to buy Poser 7, the fundamental structure of the program is not likely to change that much. But there is another advantage to this book. Even in programs I've used for years, by reading books which focus on the fundamentals I often find keystrokes, menus or features I had no idea were there. If you already know Poser 6, you might be disappointed. But if you're new to the program and want to know what hoops you'll have to jump through to produce those fabulous looking images you see in ads and high end "show and tell" books, you might consider this book and dowloading the demo from [...]. It will go a long way toward giving you some idea what you're in for.

I liked it...

Got Poser 6 for a birthday gift and I ordered this book. Sorry to go against all the 1 star customers who were expecting an "Answer all my questions now" book. I think the book is great, it steps you through all the basic moves and shows you how to do things the manuel doesn't. I recommend the book to all who haven't a clue about Poser, but, for those who have worked with it, there is nothing new for you to learn from this book.

A Must For Beginners and Those With No Poser 5 Experience

This introduciton to Poser 6 is well written and more lucid than the manual that actually ships with the Poser 6 software. I reccomend it for anyone who has never used Poser before and anyone upgrading from Poser 4 with or without ProPack and Poser Artist. The reason I advise the upgraders to read it is that so much has changed in poser since version 4 that it can be confusing. Familiar tools have been moved and those that haven't may not work the same way as it did in prior version. The rendering engine and dialogue has been completely redone, while the material, cloth and hair rooms are complex--especially for those who haen't seen them before. I like this book because it is easy to understand and doesn't predispose that a person has had any 3D experience.

A basic guide to both artistic and technical concepts

If you regularly surf the image section of the web you'll undoubtedly notice many original creations stemming from the use of the Poser 6 program. Conversely, there are relatively few handbooks on Poser on the market. Kelly L. Murdock remedies this problem with his Poster 5 Revealed: The Official Guide: owners of the Poser 6 program receive a basic guide to both artistic and technical concepts, covering basic introduction through intermediate skills and presenting example projects for posing figures, creating hair styles, and more. Murdock's background in computer graphics and engineering lends to a series of lessons which provides plenty of examples and hands-on applications, with black and white images and screen shots throughout.

great! Every new user should have this book.

As a new user of Poser, I purchased this book to help me get up to speed. It is very well laid out, and is chock full of info for those of us who are just starting out, or, possibly, who are upgrading from Poser 4 or earlier. Although it does not address the "artistic" side of Poser, it will help the artist get to know his or her tools so that one can go on to create exciting artwork. I would heartily recommend this book!
