Insightful, Playful, Eccentric and oh so Romantic!

With another Valentine's Day 2004 just come and gone, I read these stories of romantic one-night-only real life performances and was inspired by the power of love. This artfully written collection of betrothal secrets is captivating, delight-filled and simply fun. Thank you Ms. Viera for giving us this well crafted gem of romantic exploits and endeavors.

inspiring and mindboggling

Amazing, what some people are willing to do in order to get their loved ones to agree to marry them these days. Do I really have to propose on board a sold out plane, on the flight attendant's intercom or rent both horse and armor in order to appear as my future wife's shining knight - in a public park? I guess so.Long gone are the days when a simple bouquet, a nice dinner and a diamond ring managed to do the trick - we've entered the age of Survivor and The Bachelor. Better prepared and inspired, I figured, to convince my very own Bachelorette, that I'm no Average Joe after all, and Sheree Bykofsky and Laurie Viera deliver way enough material to prepare me for the day when I strike - but first, I've got to finish reading their stories and muster up the courage .

Too Wordy

Most of the proposal stories went on and on. In reality I think there were about 30 or so stories in the book. I would also recommend The Romantic's Guide to Popping the Question. It has over 100 real life stories which are much shorter and quite creative.

Good, But Small Collection

The stories in the book are a bit wordy but overall they are pretty good. I think there are only 36 actual stories in the book so the tips and ideas are a bit limiting. I did find 101 award-winning stories which helped me out tremendously at howtoproposemarriage. com Good luck on your engagement. You'll either be praised for the rest of your life for it or will be ridiculed for it. Make it good.

The best tales of how couples met, courted, and got engaged.

If you're looking for stories on how a couple met, courted, and got engaged, this book does so like no other book can. I could not stop reading it. I love that these stories are true stories, and yet they are not summed up in one sentence. And the varieties are many. One couple gets engaged scuba diving, while several others get engaged on an airplane; some are magicians, others are cartoonists. I particularly liked the one between the police officer and the waitress in the diner. I liked that it was long, covered many years, and had so much in it. I loved that it had drama and suspense in it. It was almost like a book itself. I love stories with those features. What I liked about that about that one was I didn't know when or how they'd get engaged, since they were friends for years and he had a wife. Also, the man who planned the surprise wedding in Hawaii is cute and the one with the World War II history is touching. To be honest, all of them were great. I could not stop reading this book. I wish there were a sequel. But what this book lacks are pictures of the happy couples! Will you authors please do another edition of this book and a sequel, both with pictures. This is a fantastic book and I would love to see the fantastic people who made it possible.
