A keeper!

Reviewed by Joanne Benham for Reader Views (10/06) This book was written as the author watched Tugger, her miniature Schnauzer, going about his daily doggy routine and wondering what he was really thinking about all the weird and strange things that humans do. If you're one of the millions of people who ascribe human logic and thinking to their dog, you will totally `get' this book; from a sly play on words, like, "Oops, so sorry. That was my faux paws" under an illustration of a dog looking concerned as his owner looks at the dirty paw prints running across the carpet, to deathless prose, such as, "Fee Fi Fo Fum, I smell the Bloodhound of an Englishman. Be he alive or be he dead, I'll chew his bones it I'm not fed," to real photographs of Tugger going about his day, such as drying off by rubbing himself across the upholstered chair or standing in the middle of an enormous pile of chewed up toilet tissue with the most innocent look on his face, this book is exceedingly funny. Filled with wonderful little drawings done by the author, I found myself going back through the book just to look at them some more. Some of the more delightful illustrations were ones that cast a dog's eye view on everyday things that refer to the dog, either directly or indirectly, such as Sirius, the dog constellation, dogwood trees and dogfish. There were two illustrations that stand out for me. One was the dog's eye view of "Old Faithful" in Yellowstone Park and the other was the Nativity as seen by the dog in the manger. I think the front cover of the book "Poor Tuggerisms" says it all, "A book of canine comments, quips, thoughts, tips and other fun stuff about dogs." This book is a keeper.
