Based on Guy de Maupassant's short story, 'Poor Sailor' is an emotional, moving and honest graphic novel by Sammy Harkham. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Poor Sailor is a fable narrated with very little dialog and illustrated with deceptively childish imagery. The end of the story is cleverly designed. When one thinks that it is all over in this Odysseian story ... it isn't! The use of blank pages between one "end" and the next allows the reader to visualize, so to speak, the feeling of emptiness that deep grief can bring to the human mind. Though it is a story for an adult reader in mind, I have read it to a couple of my nephews who are under 6 years of age and they "got it" and liked it. The message is, clearly, far off adventures may not be all that the seem to be, and often we might be better off appreciating the treasures we have at home. I will definitely acquire more books from this author.

There isn't much I can say about this comic without spoiling the experience of reading it, but what I will say is that it is the best comic story I have read to date.
