Last of the Canadian Economic Nationalists

This book was recommended to me while researching a work on Avro Canada by a Canadian investment banker working for a member bank of the Federal Reserve Board. This was quite interesting as Gordon's book led me to information substantiating, in my view at least, the infamous "Global Conspiracy" of which the "FED" is a key player.Once Diefenbaker had been ousted by the Liberals, (with the assistance of a well-timed currency devaluation crisis during the campaign), Lester Pearson took office with Walter Gordon as Finance Minister. Gordon had produced an earlier book in 1956 titled "A Choice For Canada" where he presented the options of re-patriating the Canadian economy, or of further economic buy-out by the US with our only remaining hope being "eventual absorption into the USA." "A Political Memoir" describes in detail his first budget where he tried to impose measures to make sure US branch operations in Canada offered at least 25% ownership to Canadian shareholders. The political fallout Gordon describes was instant and destructive. The US imposed retaliatory measures on Canada that would have bankrupted the nation in 4 days. This devaluation crisis however was kept secret from the Canadian people while the measures of Gordon's budget were quietly dropped. Seemingly to profit from the confusion and turmoil David Rockefeller and Citibank then arranged to purchase the Mercantile Bank in Canada and completed a deal. This was against the nation's bank act so Rockefeller met with Gordon to discuss the deal insisting it had not been made. Gordon said it was illegal and would result in action by the government. Rockefeller was furious and publicly announced the deal to try to pressure the government into capitulation. When this was not forthcoming he enlisted the help of the US government. Shortly thereafter Mitchell Sharpe, who Gordon demonstrates was a constant thorn in the side of the cause of nationalism, took over as finance minister. All in all it was a fascinating read and sheds some unusually honest light on the shady workings of international finance and governments. Considering I would normally be the last to read a political memoir, this is high praise. Gordon was clearly a man of character who had the best interests of his constituency, CANADA, at heart. He also exposes the New World Order at an early date and his candor very much demonstrates the probability of a "media conspiracy" since ideas that were once national policy, are virtually NEVER mentioned by the media nor government of ANY nation today.
