Egad...

Excellent book; twisted plot with a few plot twists. Stover's style is forthright and smooth in this book while she builds this Pluto character so well one begins to wonder if maybe the book is actually fiction.I reccomend this book to anyone interested in authors such as Henry Miller and William Burroughs.Glad i didn't read this when i worked at the pet store...

An ingenious and personal novel

First I would like to say that I do not agree with "A reader" from New York who writes about the book as if it were some sleazy, average, and shallow work. This is just my opinion though. I feel that the book is so much deeper than that. It is a wake up call to a completely new perspective from the view of a type of person most of us will probably never know. It really amazes me how in Laren Stover can make you feel as if Pluto, however odd and deranged he may seem, is kind of a friend, someone you can relate to in ways. The wit and insight of Laren Stover portrayed through Pluto allows you to let yourself go in this book. I read it in a few hours because I couldn't put it down. It's just perfect. Not only does it make you laugh out loud (this coming from a more silent laugher) but it really does make you think. Which is always good. So anyway, READ IT ! !

Pluto, Animal Lover

Fantastic gem of a novel with one of literature's most memorable characters! Glittering with creepy under-currents from New Orleans cemetery scenes to sex in hospital utility closets to cranberry and vodka swilling nights at the Bronx Zoo after hours. Pluto is the kind of character you don't bring home to meet mother. Ingredients of Pluto's character cocktail: 1 part misguided altruism, 1 part Virgo neurosis, 1 part burgeoning serial killer. Decorated with a raven and a twist. A must read!

Rollercoaster Ride of Psychopathology

Laren Stover is a great writer - she really gets the reader into Pluto's warped mind, shedding light onto our protagonist's bizarre inner-workings - a veritable rollercoaster ride of obsessive-compulsive, sociopathic, and delusional musings on everyday events in Pluto's fascinating world. ( Plus it's a quick read! )

Twisted, sick fun.

This first novel grabs you (by the throat) from the beginning and doesn't let up. Pluto, the story's anti-hero, is at once charming, witty, and sociopathic. Through the whole thing you'll laugh, then feel nauseous for having laughed. As the tensions build, you'll begin to look at friends and neighbors with ever-growing suspicion. (Are they as "normal" as they appear to be?) My only complaint was with the ending. It seemed much too abrupt, and was also a little bit of a let down. Good first work.
