Jane Peart is amazing author and the Pledge was even better then the Pattern. I enjoyed reading about the daily struggles that went on during the war. Often books about the Civil War talk only about characters who were against the war. This story takes it to a deeper level and describes Jo Beth's anguish over loving Wesley and not understanding the cause he is fighting for. The description of President Lincolon and his wife is amazingly real and interesting. Jane describes everything in such perfect and beautiful detail. I felt as if I was sitting in the room listening to what was going on. A must read for anyone who enjoys a Civil War story with a romance thrown in.
A very good book!
