The different pages have holes, through which you put one or more fingers. By doing this you fill in for the missing parts of animals. For instance, your finger coming through a hole becomes an elephant trunk. two fingertips pinched together become the beak of a baby chick. I got my copy 4 years ago as a gift, and - although tattered and in pieces - it's still a hit with my 4 and 2 year olds. Strong recommendation
