SO much fun!

I can't believe how much fun this book is! One of the children I babysit was given this book as a gift, and it was all I could do not to steal it away from him. I consequently bought my own copy to bring with me as an activity for the other children I babysit. Clever, cohesive, engaging, hilariously funny. I never laugh out loud when reading, but this little journal had me chuckling the whole way through! Also, and for me most importantly, it's a neat way to remind the little girls in your life that, unlike the 'Pirates of the Carribbean movies' seem to suggest, they can be swashbuckling pirates too. Five stARRRs!

A very funny guide to becoming a captain

My son is not a big reader and I was looking for something that would get him interested in reading & writing, but would also be fun and funny. This book is a great solution to the challenge of getting your kids to open a book and keep it open. The goal of the book is for the reader to complete a bunch of pirate related writing prompts and challenges, in order to become a captain. My son did a bunch of the prompts by himself and we did some of the challenges as a team. We also shared a number of laughs along the way. There are definitely some references that adults will pick up on. Also, the art is fantastic and the book comes equipped with a handy book light. I highly recommend this book for your kid.

My daughter loves it

We gave our daughter this book a few days ago, and she hasn't put it down. She woke us up today to tell us about the pirate name she picked for herself (p. 11) and to show us the drawing she made of herself with a beard (p. 46). We recommend it! Arr!
