Book Overview

The Pursuit of Wisdom discusses the central questions of philosophy in a clear and interesting manner. It both shows how the question originated in its historic context and how contemporary philosophers approach the problem, challenging the student to work out his or her own solutions - or at least come to understand why these questions are so important and difficult to solve.

very informative... and enjoyable!

I must admit I have read no other philosophy introduction texts, but I have read my fair share of bad textbooks and this is not one of them. I suppose the only reason I did not give it the full five stars is I have only read about half of it (the assigned class reading), and really have nothing (philosophical) to compare it against. Nevertheless, if you are new to the world of philosophy but ready to accept the challenge and joy of re-assessing this thing called life, look no further!

excellent book

This is the best introductory textbook in philosophy that I have read. It's fair, insightful and comprehensive. Pojman makes the difficulat accessible without dumbing it down. The sections onphilosophy of religion and ethics are the best parts of the book.
