The Philly Sports Fan's History Lesson

Being 30-something and an avid Philly sports fan (having grown up in South Philly), I, like all of you, have seen the major league ups and downs (mostly downs), but didn't have all the facts I needed to truly consider myself a fan.Well, here is the history lesson. Use it to gain some perspective, boys and girls.Dolson here presents the quintessential history of Philadelphia sports to its fans, and I damn proud to be considered one, even more so after reading this book. (I have yet to read Macnow/Gargano - I can't wait to get it!)We love to gripe about our current sports woes, but Philly has seen it worse. Much worse. It's in the book. For example - which Philly baseball team had 117 losses one season? What? No way.We also have seen some really good times, (current Eagles dynasty not-withstanding) and they're in the book as well, inducing the smile and occasional tear that any good book should. (Did I mention this is a history book?)It took me a few weeks to get through the whole thing, simply because it's packed with info. Dolson knows his history, and he writes with the poeticism and charm that we now love in the work of Bill Lyons. Please purchase a copy of this book alongside Macnow/Gargano's. It's well worth it.
