When Nate King chose a new valley in which to build his home, he wanted to get away from all civilization and the inevitable trouble it brings. But Nate can't duck trouble for very long. This description may be from another edition of this product.
A special giant edition to celebrate the series reaching number fifty. Events far from the valley in which the King family have built their new homes will soon bring life threatening trouble as Evelyn is taken hostage. But even before this new danger arrives there's a hostile band of Indians to deal with. Indians who've also laid claim to the valley and they're not willing to share. David Thompson has come up with a winner here. This book grabs the readers attention from the very start with an unexpected and sudden death. The horror of a massacre that all but wipes out a tribe of Indians will have you feeling for the survivors and their quest ahead. Part of the book being about their journey, their wonder at the new lands and people they come across. Then there's the hints at possible storylines to come in following books, that make the reader wish they were published more often. All this told in the face paced, exciting, cliff-hanger, writing style that has helped make this series so popular. Here's to the next fifty! Highly recommended.

Wilderness # 50 - People Of The Forest By David Thompson - Genre: Western This special giant edition to celebrate the 50th book in the series is an absolutely cracking read. I think the giant format is great for this series as the author is able to make the stories a lot bigger with a much wider scope plot wise. This book has everything, suspense, drama, action, laughs, great dialogue, cliff-hanger chapter endings that keep you engrossed in the tale all the way through the book. We have a peaceful Indian tribe betrayed, a stoneage-like tribe of Indians after blood and revenge, the start of a new relationship maybe? and so much more. It was a good plot idea showing the different sides of the Natives Americans with their totally opposite viewpoints etc. that they hold. I couldn't guess who was kidnapping folk, I thought it was some weird Crypto beastie, when I found out who it was I was astounded!!. Fantastic book, one of the best I've read in the series, Highly recommended. How about a giant giant
A Very Strong Installment in the Long-running Series

This, the 50th book in the WILDERNESS series, is one of the strongest yet. We were very fortunate that the publishers saw fit to make this a Giant edition. A wonderful reward for his many fans. This series has been around for 17 years. Author David Robbins (writing under the pseudonym of David Thompson) is definitely doing everything right as each book through all of these years has exceeded the last in eloquence, writing style, research and even though fiction, one of the great strengths of these books is that they are so well researched and based in fact and lore. Mr. Robbins has been criticized for the pulpy style of his books. However, it is my opinion that the pulp atmosphere is deliberate. Since no one has ever done a 'pulp fiction Mountain Man' series before, it seems this should be a plus not a negative. PEOPLE OF THE FOREST is a fast paced book that has everything for the reader. Mystery, action, romance, pathos, humor and above all, family values. Highly recommended!
Wilderness: People of the Forest

This exhilarating fast paced installment of the Wilderness saga finds the entire King clan, along with Shakespeare and Blue Bonnet Women fighting two new previously unknown tribes for their very existence and the right to live in their new home and valley alone and unmolested. The first tribe are prehistoric relics that practice cannibalism and are intent on one thing only, to kill and to eat the misfortunate Kings. The second tribe are a family that survives the horrific massacre of their entire tribe by whites, making them in effect the last of The People of the Forest. The remaining 5 family members travel to the Rockies where they intend to settle and kill any whites who may have a second notion to the idea of them building a home and starting a new life. Each group, it seems, has one thing in common and that is that they claim the valley as their own and will defend it to the death. People of the Forest is another page burning read that grabs your attention from the first chapter and doesn't release it's grip till the last page. Excellent, well written story and highly recommended along with David Thompson's entire Wilderness series.
