The Warrior Exposed

Michel Roy has written a very insightful and interesting history of his son, Patrick Roy. Even though we know how the story ends, the book is riveting as Michel takes us through Patrick's entire career. There are also many revealing facts about Quebec City, one of the jewwls of North America. Mostly, we learn of Roy's desire to be an NHL goalie and he rose to be arguably the greatest of all-time. He was the ultimate warrior and we get the insider's view of his accomplishments during his great career. Once I started the book, it was difficult to put down. It is thoroughly enjoyable.

My Idol

Being a lifelong Habs fan, this was my guy. Of course, there's been so many in Habs lore like LaFleur, Richard, Beliveau and so many more. All those names were just legends that I never had a chance to see. Roy captured our hearts and imaginations in 1986. This book was truly a treat with the insight on how Roy's technique changed the faced of goaltending forever and especially his love and respect for the game. His first training with the Canadiens, his cups in Montreal and his departure are covered plus his career in Colorado are only some of the subjects mentioned in this book. His perseverance is the message that retained the most from this book. A great read for Habs/Avs fans and hockey fans alike.

This is a "must have" for any hockey fan. You won't be disappointed.

Hockey Reading at Christmas, tis no better Season

If most people do not know yet, I typically read a hockey book for the holiday season. This year the book was read in Edmond, OK and not in Nova Scotia (but was read in honor of moving to Colorado). It was a little different atmosphere for the read. Most of my readers do not know much about hockey, but Patrick was one of the best goalies ever in the NHL. He was a legend as well as a controversial player because of his style, passion, and winning attitude. He played hockey for the first part of his career in Montreal which is a hot bed of hockey passion and intensity. He later was traded to Colorado where he played on two Stanley Cup winning teams. The book is written by his father which makes it a little bias on the views of the events. Typically the father takes the positive outlook on his son, and really who can blame him. The book is a lovely read because it brings me back to my childhood in Canada. As I read, I remember the events. The book provides some insider looks on the feelings, the passion to win, and what really made Patrick great all those years. By the end of the book, Patrick was an enduring figure in my life. It inspired me to "Win, nothing else."
