PASSION'S DESTINY, set in the ambiance of New Orleans, is the perfect backdrop for a tingling story about spirited Jakarta Raven, never one to back down from scandal, and straight-laced New Orleans District Attorney and senatorial candidate, Zane Reeves. Jakarta had been on the run for too many years, and finally comes home when unjust charges are filed against her sister. She now realizes how much she misses her family and how important it is to have caring people around her. However, once her sister is cleared, Jakarta becomes restless. Her plans to leave again are not welcomed by her family. But what is more alarming is the fact that her restlessness will send her to visit the man who prosecuted her sister, District Attorney Reeves. Zane has had little time for romance, politics is his life, but something about Jakarta arrests his attention, not to mention his libido. The sensual attraction between them gets their full attention until Zane's political aspirations become a major player. But Jakarta has a past and with his political future hinging on scandal she does not want her past to complicate his campaign. She finds a way to distance herself from Zane. But will Zane, who has been awakened from an emotional hibernation, forfeit a romance with a woman who has made him see what is missing in his life, even for politics? Ms. Wilson-Harris loves to take rebellious but empathetic heroines who live life to the fullest, and align them with down-to-earth traditional men. This story reminds me of my personal favorite, The Art Of Love, in that I found myself again cheering for the independent, effervescent heroine. This is a very entertaining read. Campaigning for Love

In this day and age, it would be very idealist for a politician to think that their campaign would be exempt from any negative press, no matter how old the information may be. In Passion's Destiny by Crystal Wilson-Harris, the budding romance between Zane Reeves and Jakarta Dailey is tested when Zane runs for the office of Governor of the state of Louisiana and Jackarta's past is brought to light. Zane Reeves was the Prosecuting Attorney for the parish of New Orleans. He was happily living his life and dating Jakarta Dailey when he was approached to run for Governor of the state. For Zane, this was the opportunity to begin his dream of running for political office. Jakarta Dailey was happy to be by Zane's side and serve as his "political conscious" during the campaign. Everything was fine on the campaign trail until a disgruntled campaign worker, searched and found some negative information about Jakarta. Realizing this information could hurt Zane's chance at winning the election, Jakarta flees home to Detroit. However, Zane was not going to let the rumors and misinformation cause him to lose Jakarta. He follows her to Detroit and brings her back to Louisiana and his campaign tour, much to his supporter's dismay. Zane's focus is on winning the race based on the issues and not Jakarta's past. It is ironic that I picked up this book in the midst of the California Governor's race. Similarly, the issues are not the focus, but any negative press in the candidates or their entourage lives become the focal point of the election. The author does a good job of portraying the behind the scene action of a political campaign and mixing in a little romance. Alone, Zane's character was pretty much one dimensional, Jakarta was much more interesting thus adding much more energy to the story. Jeanette APOOO BookClub
