A nice little primer for the founder of a startup to take a look at for some guidance. But I didn't

Not a bad little startup guide for a wanta-be entrepreneur. I thought it was well written, but the chapters were seriously out of order. Below is a list of the 24 chapters, but I have reordered them in a sequence that makes better sense to me: CHOOSING A BUSINESS 1. Profits from your passion 2. Your vision 7. Social responsibility 3. Your business opportunities 4. Your business concept INVESTIGATE & RESEARCH BUSINESS IDEA 6. Your competitors 5. Your customers 9. Making your product or performing your service 11. Channels 17. Marketing 20. Pricing 8. Identity 18. Your marketing vehicles & tactics 10. Location 12. Legal concerns 13. Taxes, licenses, & insurance CONSOLIDATE YOUR RESEARCH INTO PLANS 19. Your marketing plan 16. Your business plan 14. Financial projections START & RUN YOUR BUSINESS 15. Financing 22. Operations 23. Managing people 24. Managing finances 21. Sales APPENDIX A. Independent consultants (sole practitioners) I would have liked the book better if it had emphasized the need for a sound written business plan when starting a business. Instead all we got was a short blurb at Chapter 16. For more on this see 16 Weeks to Your Dream Business: A Weekly Planner for Entrepreneurial Women. I would have liked to see more on accounting, keeping the books, and financial reports. We were provided some of this at Chapter 14. A business if well run and organized is managed by the numbers. For more on this see The Entrepreneurial Itch: Don't Scratch Until You Read This Book, and Small Time Business Operator, 10th Edition: How to Start Your Own Business, Keep Your Books, Pay Your Taxes & Stay Out of Trouble (Small Time Operator). I would have liked the book more if it had provided more on the importance of having a Web site and a Web presence. For more on this see Web Business Success: The Entrepreneur's Guide to Web Sites That Work. And then there is the subject of Internet Marketing. For more on this see Make a Fortune Promoting Other People's Stuff Online: How Affiliate Marketing Can Make You Rich. I thought it was good to see coverage of "Business Models" at page 35. Unfortunately the term was not defined. So the coverage was less than helpful to me. And Chapter 18 on marketing tactics and techniques I found to be very weak. 4 stars!
