World war ll during/ after

A deep rich story, with many emotional and Moral situations that take place for a young women who's newly married, and already widowed, with a young baby girl to raise by herself in Paris, during the Nazi's takeover. This story will grip you and hold you...as you wonder will Charlotte, and her young baby Vivi survive the the harsh life, brought on by the occupation of the Nazi's. Charlotte works in a book store, and she is in constant fear for her babys well being, food is scarce, as is medication, fuel for heat, and constantly living in fear of the Paris Police who, are most of the times WORSE than the Nazi soldier's who constantly patrol the streets. It is in her bookshop, that a German Soldier continues to visit on a regular basis, who scares Charlotte, because she doesn't know why he keeps coming back...is he going to find some minor infraction, that can get her arrested, does he know something about her, and is watching and waiting to turn her in to the Gastpo. You can hardly get through the many chapters in Charlotte's and Vivi's life that involve the Bookstore and the German Soldier !! It is through the Meeting and after much time, she befriends the German Soldier, that the story is built on. It is written with such wonderful detail, and Passion..many nights I was up reading till 2:00 am.!! I loved the Authors, story line, the Characters that you meet during the war, and After the war, as she relocates in New York. This is a love story, filled with loyalty, guilt, and human spirit to survive. I truly cannot say enough about this book...you may be done reading it... but it is one of those books you come across..that just doesn't Leave You!! I haven't read anything by this author before, I just bought it on a whim, but I WILL be looking into her other books, that are listed. So glad I found this Gem of a story !!!
