Parenting a child with AS

This book is great. I have had it out from the library so many times and had to keep returning it so decided to buy it. It is easy to read, and easy to find things in. It is great in that it has heaps of ideas on how to handle a situation and ideas that are acutally useable and don't take up ages to implement. The beginning section of the book is great as a parent to help you realise you are not to blame, or alone. Also that what you feel is "normal" in this crazy world that we have landed in. The person diagnosed might live on the other planet as all the books say, but we as parents need to negotiate that planet as well to make it all make sence. The emotions were a lot of what I had felt at some time or another and could really relate to. I think this is an excellent book for anyone who is just starting out in the AS diagnosis stage and dealing with AS on a daily basis. It helps make sence of so many things. I've read many books since our diagnosis and this has been the best for me.

Wish I had this YEARS ago!

This is a GREAT book for parents - AND for other family members: grandparents, aunts and uncles, as well as other non-family members who may be involved in the caretaking and/or education process. This mom has been there and lived it and what she tells us is both helpful AND realistic. These kids aren't easy, but sometimes the attitudes you get from OUTSIDERS make the process of parenting an Aspie kid even more difficult. If you're a parent, this is a great tool - for you AND for the others in your life that need some outside perspective. I only wish I had gotten a hold of this when my daughter was younger. I could have used the extra support, plus the knowledge that I wasn't the only one who had ever had to deal with a kid like this.

Brilliance & Humor

Brenda Boyd, whose son Kenneth Hall wrote "Asperger's, the Universe & Everything" has written a delightfully logical book about raising a child with Asperger's Syndrome (AS) which is the spectrum partner to autism. In reading her words of humor and wisdom, it is easy to see the apple did not fall too far from the tree -- her son, Kenneth has also provided invaluable insight and information about this sensory neurobiological condition. The book provides a clear guide in broken down steps for all, neurotypical (NT) and a/A (autism/Asperger's) alike to follow. You will want to follow the trail of steps that will take you straight to a wonderfully realistic and logical picture of life with AS. Hats off to this book! A good companion book to this one is Multicoloured Mayhem: Parenting the Many Shades of Adolescence, Autism, Asperger Syndrome and AD/HD

Excellent book if you have a child with Aspergers

I have read several books about AS and found this one to be the most helpful. It is the first book I've read that actually gave me ways to deal with my AS son.

Aspie parents need this book

I have an extensive library of books on Aspergers, always searching for concrete methods to help my 13 year old son, and though I often loan a lot of my books out, this one will not leave my side. If you are the parent, relative or otherwise important to a child with Aspergers Syndrome, please add this book to your library. It takes each of the many 'problems' AS kids have, explains a likely reason for the behavior and gives several suggestions to help you and your child deal with them. Brenda Boyle knows her son and has come up with techniques that work.
