Painted Lady

Although I did not like this book near as much as Bonjour Tristesse it still bears some of the best qualities of the style of Francoise Sagan. All of the characters from a swindler to a diva to a movie producer and many more offer color and complexity to the plot which unfolds on a cruise in the Mediterranean. Sagan is know for her ability to write conversation and this book has benefited from that talent. To me at least the book, like some of the others, reflects the life Sagan was known for: fast cars and love life, gambling and drug addictions. That is, in this book these are people seeking quick pleasure rather than those, for example, who are out to change the world.
